Frequently Asked Questions

Pavers
Q. What are the advantages of pavers over poured concrete or stamped concrete?
A. Pavers offer a variety of advantages over poured or stamped concrete. Pavers offer a wide
variety of colors, styles, and shapes. Pavers can offer a more aesthetic way to compliment any
landscape. Additionally, concrete pavers are comprised of densely formed concrete to meet the
needs of highly used areas without compromising the integrity of the patio, sidewalk, or
driveway. Lastly, pavers are segmental and interlocking. The advantage of this factor over
stamped concrete or poured concrete is that it allows for movement in the earth without
cracking the structure of the paver system. Unlike a poured concrete area, a paver system, if
damaged, can be fixed with ease. The damaged area can be removed and replaced with little to
no noticablilty.
Q. How are pavers installed for patios, sidewalks and driveways?
A. Pavers typically follow a routine design for installation. However, installation of pavers used
for foot traffic varies from those used for vehicular traffic. Advanced Wall Design, Inc. installs
pavers for foot traffic on an eight inch compacted dense grade footer. The application or
screeding of one inch of coarse sand follows the installation of the dense grade footer. The
pavers are then laid according to the pattern designated. Once the pavers are installed, cuts are
made, and a border restraint is applied, the paver system is then compacted again to achieve the
interlocking values. The primary difference in the installation of pavers for foot traffic and
vehicular traffic is a twelve inch footer used for vehicular applications.
Q. Should I seal the pavers after they have been installed?
A. Sealants are a fantastic way to increase the longevity of a paver system. There are a variety
of sealants now offered that provide extreme protection to any paver application. However, it is
not mandatory that sealants be used. Sealants can be used at the owner’s discretion due to the
wide variety of types offered.
Q. Are pavers repairable in the event of damage?
A. Paver applications are extremely repairable. For example, if a paver application has an area
that unfortunately settles, the settled area can be picked up so repairs can be made that are
generally unrecognizable.
Q. Is there a warranty on your workmanship and on the paver products installed?
A. Advanced Wall Design, Inc. offers a one year warranty on all workmanship. Additionally,
most manufacturers warrant its products to meet ASTM guidelines and specifications for a
lifetime.
